WHO WE ARE

80dc4ee2-902b-4edd-be66-4bfa1f1ba77d.jfif

Indie bookstores are a reflection of their communities—what they value, who they welcome, and how they care for one another. The Crow and Cat Bookshoppe was created to represent all folks in our region. Y’all means all, always.

We believe everyone deserves to see themselves reflected in the stories they read and the spaces they enter. The loner, the outcast, and the lost will always find a seat here. Books have a way of reminding us that we’re not alone, that others have walked similar paths, and that connection can be found in the most unexpected pages.

We are deeply committed to childhood literacy and to investing in the next generation. Through our Crow's Kids program, all used children’s books are generously donated and priced at just $1, $3, or $5. We believe access to stories should never depend on a family’s finances, and no child who wants a book will ever be turned away here. Those who wish to donate children’s books are always welcome to reach out via email to arrange a drop-off and help keep the magic going.

Community is the thread that ties everything we do together. From the hollers to the hills, come hell or high water, we believe we are stronger together. Through our mobile bookstore, we bring stories, knowledge, and connection directly to the places we call home, fostering community wherever the road takes us.

OUR team

Samantha

Samantha grew up barefoot in a creek in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, with a book never far from reach. Some of her closest companions were found in the pages of stories—friends she carried with her as she earned a BA in Sociology and History and later an MA in History.

The Crow and Cat Bookshoppe was born as a love letter to the hollers and hills of Kentucky that raised her, and to the characters who stepped off the page and held her hand from childhood on. With a deep belief in the power of stories, Samantha centers marginalized voices and childhood literacy, knowing that books can shape futures, build empathy, and change lives.

These days, she can still be found wandering the woods and creeks, accompanied by the sound of crows cawing—and her loyal garden cat purring close by.

Cat

A black cat

Cat is the youngest of 10 littermates born beneath a full moon. A Leo with amazing taste in everything (according to him), Cat is the self-appointed “Vibes Manager” here at The Crow and Cat Bookshoppe.

He loves napping in the sun spot, catnip, treats, and being told how utterly and devastatingly handsome he is.
